The Wallis is proud to present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I this spring. Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a widowed British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic move, invites to teach his many wives and children.


One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beloved works, The King and I features a score that includes such cherished classics as “Getting To Know You,” “Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello, Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.” This lavish new production is directed by Tony Award® nominee Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, The Light in the Pinnacle), who won acclaim for his acclaimed revival of The King and I on Broadway in 2015, garnering him Tony®, Drama Desk® and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
